History

A beautiful example of Georgian architecture, The Saddler’s Cottage has been a part of Northern Tasmania’s history since 1840. Originally built by Thomas Reiby of Entally Estate as accommodation for the saddle maker and blacksmith, the cottage was initially two side-by-side residences - with the front facade still featuring twin front doors. Sitting proudly in Carrick’s quiet main street, it’s not hard to imagine horse & carriages stopping by to have a saddle or horseshoe repaired.

Now a single dwelling, inside, The Saddler’s Cottage is rich in historic charm, with original doors and polished floors, open fireplace, and brick chimneys. Heritage listed, the timber shingles are preserved under the current roof.

Accommodation

Both family friendly and pet friendly, The Saddler’s Cottage offers complete flexibility for families and small groups of friends. The garden is fully fenced, and there is a mud room suitable for pets.

Deceptively spacious, the cottage has four bedrooms sleeping up to 10 guests. There are two queen bedrooms, one with three single beds, and the fourth with a queen and single bed. All are fitted with luxurious 1300 thread count linens, quality bedding, and a cot is available upon request. There are two bathrooms, one with a clawfoot bath, perfect for long soaks with a glass of wine.

Two lounge rooms provide plenty of space for everyone to relax, and are well-stocked with books and board games, perfect for a cosy afternoon in front of the fireplace. A cook’s kitchen allows you to whip up your favourite meals with fresh Tasmanian produce - and there’s even a fruit orchard and vegetable garden that guests are welcome to help themselves to.

The kitchen is also fully-equipped with a large combination oven, Nepresso coffee machine, pantry staples, condiments, spices, coffee and tea - with supermarkets only a few minutes away. Enjoy gathering for meals in the separate dining room with antique dining table.

Your stay also includes a complimentary cheese board with local cheeses and a bottle of wine, and additional local wine, cheese & gourmet treats are available for purchase.

The cottage’s half-acre of private gardens, with manicured lawns and flowering plants, is all yours to enjoy…and pick cherries, greengages, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries from the fruit orchard when in season.

On the outdoor patio is a large locally-made pizza oven, and two outdoor entertaining areas, one undercover, make it easy to gather outside for casual meals or coffee each morning. And at the end of the day, unwind in the 10 person, fire-powered cedar hot tub nestled privately in the garden - a favourite amenity of previous guests, and a delight to use during all seasons.
