Sleeps 16 | Bedrooms 5 | Bathrooms 2

Nestled under the picturesque Great Western Tiers, close to the town of Bishopsbourne, only 20 minutes from Launceston, Clayfield Homestead is a c.1820s colonial style home, offering authentic, rustic accommodation. Part of an 840 hectare working sheep, cattle and cropping farm, the origins of the property still remain a bit of a mystery – but that’s more than made up for by the five generations of sustainable farming experience your hosts, the Cresswell family, hold. Malcolm, Angela and their children Max, Cleo and Ella, have a deep passion for Tasmania and farming life. They take great delight in sharing Clayfield Homestead, and the surrounding gardens and farm with their guests.

Throughout the homestead, there are many period details to admire, including the impressive Georgian front door with radial fanlight and sidelights, hardwood floors, cedar staircase and joinery, a grand marble fireplace in the dining room, and several other ornate timber fireplaces throughout the house. The dormer windows give the homestead a quintessential Australian heritage farmhouse feel.

Comfortably sleeping up to 16 guests, there are five spacious bedrooms - three queen rooms, large attic bedroom with double bed and 4 singles, a twin single room, and further 2 single beds & rollaway bed if required. A cot is also available on request. All rooms are well heated for the cooler months, including underfloor heating in the master bedroom. There are two large bathrooms, with the downstairs bathroom featuring a free-standing clawfoot bath with spectacular views, perfect for some time out to relax at the end of the day, with a glass of wine and good book.

The open plan, fully-equipped kitchen allows you to cook your own meals, a pleasure using fresh produce from the surrounding region. With all modern appliances, there’s also a soda stream machine and Lavazza coffee machine, with tea & coffee provided. Alternatively, your hosts can arrange a variety of locally catered options, from grazing platters to four course gourmet meals. Breakfast hampers, local Tasmanian produce, and local wine and beer can also be arranged for an additional cost. The formal dining room with fireplace and views out onto the garden is a beautiful space to enjoy your Tasmanian fare.

Two separate lounge rooms, and many sunny reading nooks provide enough space for everyone to enjoy. Curl up on one of the leather sofas in the lounge and catch up on Netflix, and complimentary WiFi is also available throughout the homestead. Or, disconnect from technology and simply take in the stunning views of the gardens and surrounding countryside.

Guests are free to wander and explore the established garden and expansive lawns during their stay. The property has something to offer at all times of the year - admire beautiful blossoms and spectacular sunsets in spring, snow-capped mountains with a warm fire in wintertime, picking fruit from the orchard in autumn; and in summer, the new deck with outdoor lounge and recliners is the perfect spot for a barbecue. And don’t be surprised if a baby lamb, or newborn calf pokes their nose through the fence to say hello, reminding you that the homestead is part of a large working farm!

In the heart of picturesque Northern Tasmania, a stay at Clayfield Homestead is a truly authentic Tasmanian farmstay experience, with country hospitality in a serene setting.
