Yarras Homestead, 1823
History
The story of Yarras Homestead dates back to 1823, when George Innes was granted 2,000 acres of land, building a simple cottage and a water-powered corn mill in 1825 along the Winburndale Rivulet. The mill was constructed with handmade bricks using convict labour. Innes named the property The Yarrows.
In 1861, Thomas Kite purchased The Yarrows, renaming it Yarras, and in 1863, remodelled the homestead as a wedding gift for his daughter. In the 1920s, the flour mill was converted into a shearing shed, still in use today.
One of the most significant homesteads in the Bathurst region, Yarras has been painstakingly renovated to its former glory, with the original sweeping red cedar staircase, ornate fireplaces, soaring ceilings and polished timber floors, complimented by carefully-curated antiques. An idyllic country retreat with two centuries of history, Yarras is now a luxury farm stay experience.
Accommodation
Five comfortable bedrooms sleep up to 10 guests, with families welcome. Each bedroom has been stylishly and simply decorated to provide a relaxing and restful experience, with luxurious linens and stunning views from every window. King beds can also be split into twin beds if required, perfect for families or small groups.
Two modern bathrooms have underfloor heating, and complimentary al.ive Australian bath & body products, and a full laundry allows for longer stays.
A gourmet kitchen has everything you need including pantry staples, and enjoy meals in the formal dining room with open fire and beautiful antique dining table. Unwind in front of fireplace in the spacious lounge, watch a movie on the Smart TV, listen to your favourite tunes on the Bluetooth sound system, or play the piano.
Outdoors, guests are invited to explore the surrounding farm and its historic outbuildings, including the shearing shed, sheep dip and timber sheep yards, and picturesque Windburndale rivulet running through the property. The wide wraparound verandah captures mesmerising views of the countryside and breathtaking sunsets, the perfect spot for a glass of wine each evening.
Yarras Homestead is also a popular destination for country weddings, special events, and photo shoots.

You may wish to simply stay at Yarras and soak up the serenity, however only a few minutes’ drive will see you in the heart of historic Bathurst. Browse boutique stores, stop for lunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants in town, and take a wander through Machattie Park.
Admire the grand Bathurst Courthouse, an outstanding example of neoclassical architecture dating to 1880. Explore Australia's prehistoric past at the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, and spend an afternoon at the renowned Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, with its impressive collection of Australian art.
