History
Warroo Homestead was built just after the turn of the century by Mr Bennett, a member of the established Bennett family who owned several newspapers, including the Old Evening News - a well-regarded Sydney newspaper published between 1867 and 1931. Bennett also constructed the swimming pool at the front of the house that commands spectacular views of the Murrumbidgee River and Yass Valley.
The homestead is rich in heritage charm, with its original windows and doors, polished spotted gum and pine floorboards, five brick fireplace surrounds, and high ceilings throughout - with the lounge and dining rooms featuring original horsehair and beams. For over a century, the original wide verandah, overlooking the pool and surrounding countryside, has provided a welcome escape from the summer heat.

Warroo Homestead offers comfortable, spacious accommodation for up to 8 guests, with families welcome. There are two queen bedrooms, one double bedroom, and one twin room with two single beds. A cot is also available upon request. The beautifully-appointed modern bathroom features underfloor heating with Spanish ceramic tiles, copper tapware, restored original clawfoot bath, shower with views, and hand & body wash.
A fully-equipped farmhouse kitchen has everything you need to prepare all your favourite dishes, including two ovens, Miele dishwasher, and espresso coffee machine. A surprise extra is included for guests - it could be a bottle of local wine, lemons straight off the tree, or sourdough bread from local bakery Clementine.
Gather for meals in the formal dining room around the Kauri table with a roaring open fire on cooler evenings. Both the living and dining rooms have beautiful floor-to-ceiling moss green velvet curtains, exposed beams, and spotted gum polished floors.
Unwind in the living room and watch a movie on the large HDTV with Apple TV. The homestead also has complimentary WiFi, or disconnect from technology and choose one of the books or board games for guests to enjoy.
Reverse-cycle central heating and cooling keeps guests comfortable throughout the year.
Outside on the verandah is a gas BBQ with 10 seat outdoor dining setting, perfect for morning coffee with breakfast, long lunches, and evening drinks overlooking the valley. The 14 metre saltwater pool provides hours of enjoyment and is large enough to swim laps in, with the valley at sunset creating a truly stunning backdrop. There’s even a mini golf area next to the pool, so you can perfect your putting.

Warroo Homestead is just 15 minutes from Yass, 25 minutes from Murrumbateman wineries, under an hour from Canberra, and 3 hours from Sydney. Visit historic Cooma Cottage - the home of famous explorer Hamilton Hume, and the Railway Museum, which takes you through the history of the Yass Tram Way in Yass.
Just down the road, you’ll find Wee Jasper Distillery for gin tastings, and stop in at cellar doors for wine tastings at Clonakilla wines, Helm wines, and Shaw Estate, among many others.
