History

The Harriette was originally owned and used as a Manager’s cottage by the Onkaparinga Woollen Mill, which operated in Lobethal between 1872 - 1993. An icon of the Australian wool industry, the mill was famous for its pure Australian wool blankets, and during its operation, significantly contributed to South Australia’s economy. To reflect The Harriette’s history, a selection of beautiful Onkaparinga blankets are provided for guests’ use.

A classic bungalow built in the 1920s and meticulously restored, The Harriette is brimming with heritage cottage charm, with high ceilings, original doors, brick fireplace surround, and warm timber floorboards - all coupled with modern amenities.

Accommodation

Whether you're seeking a peaceful getaway, romantic escape, winery holiday, or in town for a festival or event, The Harriette’s self-contained accommodation provides every convenience for both short and longer stays.

Impeccably presented, the cottage has a luxurious vintage feel throughout, with a high attention to detail and thoughtful touches in every room. Two spacious king bedrooms are fitted with luxury A.H Beard mattresses, quality linens, and electric blankets for the cooler months. And to help you truly relax, there are soft bathrobes and slippers to use during your stay.

A beautifully-appointed bathroom features a deep free-standing bath, perfect for long soaks with a glass of wine after a day exploring the Adelaide Hills. There is also a spacious large walk-in shower, with Australian Salus botanical bath & body products provided.

Created to feel like a home away from home, ‘The Green Room’ lounge has a comfortable sofa, cosy fireplace, and Smart TV with Stan, so you can enjoy a movie night. A smaller snug room adjacent to kitchen has a dining setting, and Nectre combustion fire, with plenty of firewood provided.

The fully-equipped kitchen is a pleasure to use, with state of the art appliances and pod coffee machine. In the butler’s pantry is a dishwasher, along with washing machine and dryer, allowing for longer stays. Breakfast provisions of bread, milk, butter, cereals, condiments, coffee pods, and wide range of teas are provided - along with a bottle of local sparkling wine and chocolates.

Step outside to your own beautifully-landscaped private cottage gardens, with a gorgeous courtyard area, BBQ, and undercover outdoor room set up for comfortable and easy al fresco dining.

The gardens, with flowering plants and the scent of climbing roses is a delightful place to spend time. Visit farm gates and local producers throughout the Adelaide Hills for fresh local produce, then return to cook your favourite meals, or simply relax with a local cheese platter and a glass of South Australian wine as the sun sets.

A beautifully-curated home that exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Beautiful, clean, warm and welcoming. Little treats on arrival, and everything you need for a wonderful stay. Carol provided great recommendations for the area and was quick to reply to our messages. We will be back to visit Miss Harriette!
