Sleeps 8 | Bedrooms 4 | Bathrooms 2

Sunday House is one of historic Maldon’s landmark buildings. Set in the heart of the township and heritage listed, it was built in 1865 as Maldon’s Welsh Baptist church. A meticulous architectural renovation has transformed the building into a relaxing retreat that feels like a home away from home, where up to eight guests can come together to relax, cook, listen to music, read, and explore the Victorian Goldfields.

The building has period detail throughout, with wood-lined loft ceilings, black-strapped beams and original, three metre high arched windows, with picturesque views of Maldon’s stunning historic streetscapes. High ceilings, original doors and flooring, and exposed brickwork add to the atmosphere of this treasured building. A large stone baptismal font under the hallway floorboards remains in situ and cannot be seen, but was sighted during a dig under the house.

The owners, an artist and an ex-hotelier, have spent years dreaming up this space and are delighted to share their beautiful heritage building with guests. Inside, they have created a delicious feast for the eyes and mind, with Sunday House featuring a curated collection of art by renowned and up-and-coming Melbourne print-makers and artists.

There are four comfortable bedrooms, three with queen beds and the master with king bed, all fitted with luxurious bedding, and simply & elegantly furnished with vintage pieces and original contemporary artwork. Two bathrooms have large glass walk-in showers and complimentary organic Castile soap.

A fully-stocked chef’s kitchen with all modern appliances has everything you need to whip up a spectacular meal - or if you prefer, you can invite one of Maldon’s local chefs in to cook for you! Dine in the formal dining room by candlelight under soaring ceilings, or enjoy a more relaxed meal at the sunlit rustic kitchen table.

The open plan living area has a huge fireplace, large lounge to relax on, smart TV, Sonos speaker system, a pool table, piano, board games and large dining table that seats ten. If you need to get work done, or need some peaceful writing time, there’s a fully-fitted office, library nook, and complimentary WiFi.

Step through French doors onto the large verandah, and spend a lazy afternoon on one of the sun lounges with a good book & glass of wine. There’s a gorgeous established garden to enjoy with large lawn, mature trees, wisteria and many flowering plants in springtime, and a shaded outdoor dining area with gas BBQ. Sunday House is pet friendly, with secure fencing. The entire property is also proudly eco-friendly, with no use single-use plastics, and environmentally-friendly cleaning products.

Perfect for a getaway with family, a restorative catch up with friends, or small group special occasion, Sunday House is a peaceful haven that will soothe your soul the minute you step inside. An ode to the most relaxing day of the week, the traditional day of rest, come and unwind at Sunday House - where every day feels like Sunday!
