The Old School at Grand Ridge House, c. 1922

History

The Old School building is the former Hallston State School, No. 2825, constructed in 1922 to serve the local community after World War I. Designed by the Public Works Department and heritage listed, it has both local historical and representative significance to South Gippsland Shire. The Old School building is a well-preserved example of the single room school design, favoured during the interwar period.

Surrounded by rambling deciduous gardens, The Old School has been reimagined to offer romantic, spacious open plan accommodation. Largely original, the building has been beautifully restored, retaining its high timber-lined ceiling, exposed brick chimney and fireplace, double-hung and hopper windows, polished floorboards, and tall multi-paned windows that fill the space with light.
