Kingsdale, 1882
History
’Kingsdale’ was built in 1882 and designed by Edmund Cooper Manfred. An English born, Australian architect, Manfred also designed some of the most iconic buildings and parks in Goulburn, including Goulburn Town Hall in 1887, now home to the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre.
For many years, Kingsdale was a popular watering hole for the thriving local lime mining industry, as evidenced by the remains of limeburners' huts that still line Marble Hill Road.
Current custodians and hosts Adelle Clissold and her husband first fell in love with the building way back in 1991, when they travelled to country NSW on a gold panning camping trip. When the opportunity arose to purchase Kingsdale in 2022, 31 years later, they jumped at the chance.
Constructed from limestone mined nearby, Kingsdale features 13 foot ceilings and thick internal walls, decorative cornices with picture rails, a beautiful wide entrance hall corbelled arch, the original staircase, and several ornate fireplaces. With its handcrafted stone and brick facade, wide wraparound verandah, and delicate timber fretwork, Kingsdale is an outstanding example of Australian heritage architecture, and truly one of a kind.

Accommodation
Kingsdale has four bedrooms, sleeping up to 8 guests. Downstairs is the master bedroom with queen bed, large wardrobe, and its own ensuite bathroom. Also downstairs is a double bedroom, and the main bathroom with original cast iron slipper bath. Complimentary Savior-Faire hair and body products are provided.
Upstairs has accommodation for a further four guests, with queen and twin single bedrooms, dedicated kitchenette, bathroom, and spacious sitting room. The layout of bedrooms on both floors, and fully self-contained accommodation upstairs makes Kingsdale perfect for two families or couples holidaying together.
Relax downstairs with a book beside the wood fire, or in the games room, enjoy a game of pool while the kids watch a movie in the TV room. At meal times, the fully-equipped large country kitchen is a dream to cook in, and stocked with pantry staples along with a selection of teas, coffee, and hot chocolate. A bottle of local wine from Kingsdale’s neighbours, Kingsdale Wines, is also provided upon arrival. Spend an evening cooking your favourite dishes and enjoy a beautiful meal together in the elegant formal dining room.
Outside, there’s so many places to unwind and take in the peaceful surrounds. Breakfast in the lovely sun-drenched courtyard, or in the gazebo, with endless views of the countryside. Grab the picnic blanket and head outdoors for lunch - there’s plenty of spots for picnics around the property - and meet Hugo, the friendly pet steer, who loves the occasional slice of white bread. Call his name, and he’ll run to the gate like a dog! At dusk, enjoy a wine on the front verandah, and watch the sun go down.

Spend an afternoon at Kingsdale wines, directly opposite Kingsdale 1882, tasting their outstanding collection. Head into Goulburn - visit the Big Merino, and take the self-guided heritage tour and admire Goulburn’s stunning historic buildings, churches and residential homes.
Follow the Mulwaree River Walkway, and take in beautiful natural and historic scenery along the banks of the Mulwaree River. The Rocky Hill War Memorial and Museum, located on a spectacular rocky outcrop overlooking Goulburn NSW, commemorates local men and women who have served Australia.
Within a 30 minute drive are many historic townships to discover, including Crookwell, Gunning and Taralga - allow time for a long lunch at the Argyle Inn.
