Sleeps 6 | Bedrooms 3 | Bathrooms 3

Henry’s on Balfour, c. 1881 is one of the three National Trust listed ‘Dunorlan Cottages’, a Launceston landmark, set in one of the city’s most beautiful heritage streetscapes with Georgian, Victorian and Federation architecture, a short walk from the CBD and café precinct. Designed by architect Mr F. Tyson, they were built in memory of Henry Reed, an English philanthropist – a successful businessman with lifelong generosity. It was his intention to build the cottages to provide free housing with a sustenance allowance for elderly destitute women. He passed away just prior to their construction, however the cottages were completed in his memory, providing a home for many women in the years that followed.

The double brick terrace recently received a sympathetic renovation, with many of its charming period details retained, including original doors & windows, high ceilings, oak floorboards, central staircase, and high ceilings, whilst transforming it into a light-filled abode. Owner & host Annabelle has carefully selected beautiful furnishings, artwork and homewares to create a luxurious inner-city sanctuary. The Townhouse Tasmania is sister to Henry’s on Balfour, and both properties are a testament to Annabelle’s flair for interior design and attention to detail.

There are three elegant bedrooms sleeping up to six guests - a king room with ensuite, queen and twin single room, all with luxurious Cultiver 100% flax linen sheets. The large main bathroom has a spa-like feel, with stunning sea-blue tiling, deep freestanding bath and underfloor heating.

An open plan, contemporary kitchen complements the barn style living area, with original exposed beams & rafters, painted brick walls, and polished concrete floors - a seamless fusion of old and new, bathed in northern sun. Fully equipped with Smeg oven and dishwasher, there’s also a coffee machine, T2 tea, muesli, milk and pantry staples. Guests also receive a Sippa Life gift box as part of their stay, containing a selection of Tasmanian products including Spring Bay Gin.

Unwind in two relaxing lounge areas, or in the cosy sitting room with a throw and a good book. There’s also a sunny study area with built in Tasmanian oak desk, perfect if you’re working from home and require a dedicated desk. And hydronic heating throughout makes Henry’s on Balfour equally as enjoyable during winter.

Once you arrive, you may never want to leave your accommodation - but if you’re keen to venture out and explore Launceston, it’s just a short five minute stroll to tree lined Charles Street and the heart of the city’s cafe culture.
